The Sons of UCF Newsletter, Volume 20

Terry Talks

In case you missed it, UCF VP and Director of Athletics Terry Mohajir joined the Sons of UCF for a wide-ranging interview that covered a plethora of topics. Some of the highlights included an update on UCF’s rev share status, comments on the new food service partner, a facilities roadmap update, how he deals with social media scrutiny, and some details into UCF’s current financials. If you missed it, no worries, you can always watch Sons content on-demand by visiting our YouTube channel:

In preparation for the interview, we also had an opportunity to review Terry Mohajir’s current contract, which we learned expires in June 2027. As you might recall, Mohajir originally signed a five-year deal upon his hire in 2021, but this most recent extension was signed in November of 2022. From everything we can find, it appears as though this is the first time that the extension has been made public.

You can get more details on the contract, plus an interview recap, in this article featured on the Sons of UCF website:

Needless to say, news of Mohajir’s extension wasn’t widely celebrated by the fan base, who largely seem to be frustrated with his tenure:

The reality for Mohajir is that each decision, misstep, or talking point will continue to be heavily scrutinized over the remaining 18 months of his current contract. And let’s face it, his best chance to quiet the noise is to hope that the football program turns around under new coach Scott Frost. Either way, the next year and a half will be an important inflection point for the future of UCF Athletics.

Refreshingly Good?

If you are new here, welcome to Knight Nation, where we find a way to complain about anything… and everything. The latest: the new UCF uniform reveal:

My take: I like the level of detail and homage to the past. The thoughtfulness of adapting past styles to the present is really good, and helps to strengthen the bond between Knight generations. However, I would have liked to have seen some additional colorways and combinations available - perhaps gold, or dare I say, pewter.

The only potential save could be in the name of the uniform set, “core threads”, which may indicate that some alternates could be released in the future?

Either way, I know some fans were disappointed in the lack of dramatic changes, but perhaps we should have been expecting this all along. Allow me to point you back to an interview the Sons conducted with Eric DeSalvo back in December 2024:

DeSalvo uses the word “refresh” to describe the uniform change, perhaps signaling that drastic changes were not in the works. In this case, it’s very possible that Knight Nation misconstrued the phrase “new uniforms”, thus setting lofty expectations.

Either way, in the words of the late James Reid, aka CostSegAdvisor:
